Murray Summer Action League

From May 15 - July 31, Murray Mondays will take on a new look as the Murray Summer Action League (MSAL). Monday night tournaments will continue at the same time, now with players earning MSAL Points that will qualify them for the MSAL Championship at the end of the summer.


When: Monday Nights, 6:30pm (no pre-registration, please arrive by 6:15pm)

Entry Fee: Free, but donations appreciated ($1-2 a night). A suggested donation of $25 for the whole summer will help cover US Chess rating fees, acquire prizes, and offset other expenses incurred by tournament directors who are volunteering their time to help make these events a success! 

No pre-registration, just show up!


Format:

Alternating - Quick Nights: 4 Rounds, Swiss System, G/15+5 | Action Nights: 3 Rounds, Swiss System, G/25+5 (Accelerated pairings may be used at tournament director discretion)


Participation: USCF Rated, US Chess Membership Required. Open to all players (no location requirement). Please bring sets and clocks if you're able to do so. Play in as many or as few events as you want!


MSAL Point System: Quick Nights - Tournament Score x 3 | Action Nights - Tournament Score x 4

Points from requested byes will not be included. 

Ex: If you score 2.0/3.0 on an Action Night, you will earn 8 MSAL points.

A player’s final MSAL point total will be determined by their 5 highest scores. 


MSAL Championship - The Top 4 finishers of the MSAL will be invited to play a G/25+5 double round robin on July 24 and July 31.


MSAL Junior Championship - The Top 4 Junior players of the MSAL will be invited to play a G/25+5 double round robin on July 24 and July 31. Those with a high school graduation date of 2023 or later (or under the age of 18 if they graduated high school early) are eligible for this category. 

Players who qualify for both the Championship and Junior Championship will select only one of the events to participate in. 

If a player declines a Championship invitation, the invitation will go to the next eligible player in the MSAL standings.
